A Cross Search allows you to search across project and company data sets to get highly relevant results. It may be helpful to know how to do a Project Search and Company Search before attempting a Cross Search.
In this article, we will cover a few scenarios when running a Cross Search would apply.
Scenario 1: Identifying potential suppliers or skilled project partners
You’re a project manager looking for architects with experience designing new apartments with a value of over $10,000,000 in QLD.
Start by clicking on Project on the top navigation menu then select Search Project. Tick the QLD checkbox in the Location section and select Flats & Units in the Classifications section. Next, type $10,000,000 in the minimum value field.

Once you have set these parameters, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Cross Search.

This will bring you to the Search Companies page. Here, scroll through the Roles panel and select Architect. Then, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Search button.

Your search results will load in a table. Click on the project address to view the project details page.

On the Project Detail page, scroll down to the Roles section and you will be able to see the contact information for the project’s Architect. Once you have noted the details, click on the back button on your browser to go back to your search results and look at other project detail pages.

Scenario 2: Identifying new business opportunities
You’re a retail signage supplier looking for current retail developments in WA that are being developed by your Active Companies. You can only do this if you have previously made companies active.
Start by clicking on Project on the top navigation menu then select Search Project. Tick the WA checkbox and select RETAIL from the Category panel.

Once you have set these parameters, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Cross Search

This will bring you to the Search Companies page. Here, scroll through the Roles panel and select Developer if you have a wide range of Active Companies. Select YES in the Tracking section to apply your search only to Active Companies. Then, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Search button. You may also choose Save Cross Search if you think you will be performing this search again in future.

Your search results will consist of all the current retail development projects your Active Companies (Developer) are working on. Click on the column headers to sort your results by a criteria of your choice e.g. Council, Suburb, Est. Value. Click on the project address to view the Project Details page.

The company that you have made active will have its name in orange to differentiate it from other companies.

Scenario 3: Expanding your network
You’re a business development manager looking to expand your network. You would like to identify all the builders who have worked on hospitality projects which were constructed in the last financial year in metro Victoria.
Click on Company on the top navigation menu and select Search Companies from the drop down menu. Scroll through the Roles panel and select Builder. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Cross Search.

This will bring you to the Search Projects page. Go to the Location section and tick the VIC and Metro checkboxes. Next, on the Classifications section, click on CONSTRUCTION in the Stage panel, then select HOSPITALITY in the Category panel.

In the Project Details section, set the date range for the last financial year. Then, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Search button. You may also choose Save Cross Search if you think you will be performing this search again in future.

Your search results will consist of all the builders who worked on projects that were in the construction stage in the last financial year. By default, companies are listed by alphabetical order. Click on the column headers to sort your results by a criteria of your choice e.g. Council, Suburb, Update date. Click on the Company name to view the Company Details page. You may choose to make the company active for easier tracking in future.

General search tips:
- If you start cross searching from the Project tab, you will get a list of projects as a search result. If you want to get a list of companies, start your cross search from the Company tab.
- By default, search results are listed by project and company name (in alphabetical order). Click on the column headers to sort results according to your preferred criteria.
- The more filters you apply, the more specific your results will be. In most cases, it may be better to start with a wider search and narrow down as you go.
- Generally, if you do not make a selection, the search will run across all possible options. For example, if you do not select a state, the search will cover all of Australia.
- To clear your selection and start over, click on Clear Options at the bottom of the page.
- If your search results do not match the filters you have set, check your subscription details to ensure that you have the right level of access.
